It’s all about balance

About me

I’m Daphne, a mother to three daughters (and two cats), a potter and keen supporter of the arts. My first attempts at pottery were at school, and whilst I enjoyed it, I didn’t really think about it much after that until my daughters gave me a course of lessons at our local art school for a 60th birthday present.

10 years later not only am I still going to those weekly pottery sessions, but I have bought myself a (small) kiln to be able to play around with the shapes and glazes I really like. I like making slip cast bowls (where you pour liquid clay into a mould as opposed to shaping a piece of solid clay on a potter’s wheel) because they all turn out slightly different whilst still being consistent.

I love bowls and have many I have acquired over the years in a variety of different materials, so making my own was the obvious next step. My balance bowls are designed to wobble but not fall over, reminding us that we should find balance in our lives and that things generally have a way of working themselves out.

I hope you like what I have made so far, and follow me on instagram (@daphnemargaret_pottery) to see what I’m currently working on.
